From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s heart: He wants His glory to fill the whole earth. God desires that every nation, tribe, and tongue would come to know Him and worship Him.
When God called Abraham, He said, “All the peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3). This shows that God’s vision has always been global. He wants His name to be known and His glory to be seen everywhere.

Look at these powerful scriptures:
- “All the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.” (Numbers 14:21)
- “Blessed be His glorious name forever; let the whole earth be filled with His glory!” (Psalm 72:19)
- “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9)
- “I will gather all nations and tongues, and they shall come and see my glory… All flesh shall come to worship me.” (Isaiah 66:18, 23)
God is calling His Church today to partner with Him to spread His glory by planting churches — starting new fellowships where Christ is not yet known. Church planting is one of the major tools God uses to reach souls and disciple nations.
HOW TO PLANT A NEW CHURCH (A Step-by-Step Spiritual Guide)
1. START WITH PRAYER
Before doing anything, begin by seeking the face of God. Prayer is the first and most important step in church planting.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to direct you to the specific town or village where the Lord wants a church to be planted.
- Just as Paul saw a vision of a man from Macedonia saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us” (Acts 16:9), ask God for divine direction.
- Pray against spiritual strongholds in the area. Let the Lord reveal what spiritual powers are operating there, and engage in spiritual warfare through intercession.
- Ask God for favor with the traditional rulers, community leaders, and any existing spiritual authorities in the area.
- Pray for signs and wonders to follow the preaching of the Word, so that people will know that God is with you (Mark 16:20).
2. DO THOROUGH RESEARCH
To plant effectively, you need to understand the area where you’re going. This is what we can call “spiritual and community mapping.”
- What is the size of the area?
- How many churches are already there?
- How many people are unchurched or have never heard the Gospel?
- What is the spiritual condition of the land — are churches growing or dying?
Proper research will give you wisdom and strategy, and help you avoid unnecessary mistakes.
3. BUILD A CHURCH PLANTING TEAM
Church planting is more effective when it is done as a team, not just by one person. While sometimes you may need to start alone, it is biblical and wise to gather a team.
- A team brings diversity of spiritual gifts, energy, and different perspectives.
- Even Apostle Paul worked with people like Timothy, Barnabas, Silas, and others.
- Jesus Himself formed a team of 12 disciples!
Your team could include intercessors, evangelists, teachers, and administrators. Each member plays a vital role in building the house of God.
4. RAISE FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Don’t be afraid to share the vision with your home church or sending church. Tell them what the Lord has laid on your heart.
- Share the burden of the people who are perishing without Christ.
- Tell real stories that reveal the spiritual hunger in the land you’re going to.
- Be clear and specific about your financial needs – whether it is for rent, instruments, transport, materials, or outreach programs.
- Challenge people to give sacrificially for the expansion of God’s Kingdom.
- Ask: What kingdom tools will you need? Tracts, Bibles, films, speakers, musical instruments, tents, etc.?
The vision is from God, and God will provide as you move in obedience.
5. GO AND PLANT THE CHURCH
Take action in faith!
- Introduce yourself to the local leaders – both traditional chiefs and spiritual elders. Show them respect and seek peace.
- You don’t need a cathedral to begin. Start small: under a tree, in a classroom, a tent, a rented hall, or even a family’s living room.
- The Church is not about the building; it’s about gathering the people of God around His Word.

6. MAKE DISCIPLES, NOT JUST CONVERTS
Don’t just aim to get people to say a sinner’s prayer. Your goal is to raise disciples of Jesus — people who follow Him, love Him, and grow to be like Him.
Discipleship involves intentional teaching, mentoring, correction, and encouragement.
New believers will face:
- Doubts
- Discouragement
- Lack of spiritual understanding
- Opposition from family or the environment
- Spiritual attacks
You must walk with them patiently and build them up in the faith (Matthew 28:19-20).
7. RAISE AND TRAIN LOCAL LEADERS
As the church grows, you will need people to share the work of ministry.
- Leaders are called by God, but they must also be trained and equipped.
- A true Christian leader is someone who follows Jesus closely and helps others to do the same (John 8:28–29).
- Train your leaders practically – how to pray, how to win souls, how to follow up new believers, how to teach the Word, etc.
- Classroom teaching is good, but on-the-field training is often more effective.
- Give them responsibilities and allow them to grow as they serve. Trust God to help them rise.
CONCLUSION
Pioneering a new church is a divine assignment. It requires prayer, faith, strategy, and total dependence on the Holy Spirit. But as you obey, heaven backs you up. You’re not just building a congregation – you’re advancing the Kingdom of God and fulfilling His desire to see the whole earth filled with His glory!
May the Lord anoint you, guide you, and empower you as you step into this holy work. Amen.
