THE DYNAMIC PULPIT: THE TRANSFORMATING POWER OF YOUR PULPIT

It is not a far-fetched truth to state that the major reason why spiritual transformation is rare in the church of today is the wrong use of the pulpit. What is going on in many pulpits week in, week out does not transform people for better. Most pulpits are powerless to change people positively for God today. In fact, the pulpit has lost its power in most cases and the altar has been mightily polluted. The man standing behind the pulpit is most times unqualified to stand there, and as such wrong, imbalanced, false, mechanical, lifeless and ineffective preachings are the result. And the church has been the worse for it. Of the 52 sermons that Pastors preach every Sunday of the year, how many of them have brought transformation to people?

THE TRANSFORMATING POWER OF YOUR PULPIT

A. The Power of The Pulpit Romans 10:14-15; I Cor. 1:18-21; Acts 20:32.

God has chosen the foolishness of preaching to convey His message of salvation to people. Standing behind the pulpit, lectern, altar and podium is the way God has desired the gospel to be conveyed to people. Preaching therefore is translating and transmitting God’s life to people.

  • A true pulpit must exude power of life to people-Acts 2:37-41; 7:53-55.
  • A true pulpit must bring transformation to people. A true pulpit must flow with God’s presence and power.
  • A true pulpit is built on the undiluted, balanced and whole counsel of God. Relevant, life-changing and powerful words must flow from the pulpit.
  • A true pulpit must bring refreshing and revival to people.
  • A true pulpit must bring light, life and illumination to people.
  • People must never remain the same after listening to message from a good pulpit.
  • A true pulpit brings comfort to the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. A true pulpit does not tickle the ear only but touches the heart deeply.

The pulpit must communicate to the heart, life and ears of the people. Communication from the pulpit must be clear, consistent and courteous. The best kind of pulpit is that which makes a difference in the day-to-day lives of the people.

B. Why The Pulpit Has Lost Power To Transform Today -ICor. 2:3-5; I Thes. 1:5; 2:1-6.

Sadly, most pulpits have lost the power to transform simply because the person standing behind the pulpit is abusing the platform. Most pulpits preach sermons that make people sick and teachings that make them tired, because of the following:

  • Sinful, unholy and ungodly pastors.
  • Covetous practices and greediness.
  • Controversial teachings and false doctrines.
  • Flipant, frivolous and flattering words.
  • Polluted with immoralities, double-living and lying.
  • Little prayers and preparation for the pulpit.
  • Strange fires from Guest speakers.
  • Fake anointing and powers to hoodwink people.
  • Quenching, grieving and vexing the Holy Spirit.
  • Replacing the true word of God with secular talks.
  • Anger, curses, infighting and hurling insults at perceived enemies.

Unfortunately most pulpits are not displaying the power that God imbued it with today due to these ungodly practices. And until the pulpits are cleansed of them, things will move from bad to worse. People will only hear but will not really listen to the pulpit. If we want people to start listening and obeying our pulpits today, then we must do away with these vexations of the Spirit.
